I get it. Fear is holding you back from starting your business. You have great ideas but can’t allow yourself to take such a risk. What if you fail? What will people think? Well, you won’t know until you try.
I’ve woken up every morning for the past few days to research (aka scroll Pinterest) to clarify one of my income streams.
My store hasn’t been my priority until recently. I have felt guilty about the money I spent allowing it to stay open instead of deciding to start again.
Here’s a complicated piece of life I had to learn: Fear is a CHOICE. Fear is what I am CHOOSING to feel.
Isn’t that wild? The entire time I have been afraid to move forward, I have chosen to stay stuck in my life. And yes, I know, there are times when your feelings and emotions genuinely protect you from advancing into something dangerous. But is starting a business something hazardous, or are you just protecting your pride?
WHAT DO YOU FEAR THE MOST?
Let’s work through this.
Grab a paper or your Business Brain Book.

Think about the worst things that could happen if you start this business. Here are a few that come to my mind about restarting this business:
- going into debt with no return
- being criticized for what I think
- someone laughing at the way I talk, think or speak
- my intellectual property being stolen
- not showing up consistently
Now, take your list and solve the problems.
Going into debt with no return: 1) Set an investment budget. This includes education, start-up costs, materials, website, store, etc. 2) Hold a financial meeting with yourself daily. 3) Stay on top of your business plan.
Being criticized for what I think: 1) Decide NOT to take criticism personally. 2) Work through your trauma and use your critic’s criticism (regardless of how it’s delivered) constructively. 3) If they are ugly, block ’em and move on.
Someone laughing at how I talk, think, or speak: 1) See above. 2) Remember, those people are not your people, so keep going.
My intellectual property being stolen: 1) Count on that happening, especially when you start getting a name for yourself. And, Love, you will have a name for yourself. 2) Get started with legal protection here. 3) Add legal counsel to your business team. Don’t try to handle this on your own.
Not showing up consistently: 1) I am already guilty of this one, so I know that the only thing that happened to my business is that it did not grow. That’s it.
REALITY CHECK
How are you doing so far?
Unclench your jaw, relax your shoulders, and breathe.
You know why you want to start this business.
Whether it’s for more money, power, or change, work through your fear and start doing what God calls you to do.
