Laptop. Coffee. Pjams. Glasses.
With those four things in hand, I set myself back in bed to start working on this post.
I have been so desperate to create my dream life that I have forgotten to acknowledge that I am living it.
Quitting my nursing job back in 2019 was a hard decision to make, but I knew I needed to make a change for the upcoming busy life I knew my girls would have.
No, I am not an overnight success story. It took me a long time to realize the gold mine in the knowledge I had acquired throughout the years of my endless “how to make money from home” searches.

I keep a business journal with notes and ideas. Here are some of the most important lessons I’ve learned along the way.
You can find those notes here in the Digital Profit Diary.
I’m going to give you my top eight ways to make money from home or anywhere, really. I promise these income ideas are rural lifestyle-friendly.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY FROM HOME (OR ANYWHERE)
I don’t want you to just make money – I want you to make a profit.
Here is the difference between the two:
Making money means bringing in income BEFORE you subtract the expenses.
Making a profit is what you have AFTER you have taken out the costs to run your income stream.
I want you to be making PROFITS. So I will teach you what I know about profit, loss, and everything in between the best I can.
top 8 profit potential ideas
DISCLAIMER: I am not a CPA or a lawyer. I do not guarantee any profits or income, for that matter. Talk to your tax professional and/or lawyer when needed to ensure you are making good financial decisions. These are not get-rich-quick schemes and will require real work and ethics to achieve results.
The income ideas I recommend are based on time commitment vs. outcome, startup costs, and skill set. These ideas will require you to learn a few things, but they are all things you can do while maintaining your rural lifestyle.
The best thing about this list? You can mix and match skills to add multiple income streams to create your dream business.
Here’s how I do that with my business, Texas Farm & Ranch Solution LLC:
- Shopify store that contains Print-on-Demand products, Digital Products, and MRR products.
- Bookkeeping clients whom I also Business Coach to grow their agricultural businesses.
- Writer for my blog at TxFRS.com. I also write my own captions for social media and Pinterest.
- I will be a Course Creator when I publish my business course.
Affiliate marketing is tied into a few posts here on Running in Boots, though I admit I never understood the power of it until I took this challenge.* (Yes, this is an affiliate link. It’s that easy to place them 🙂 )
CHOOSING YOUR PATH
Deciding how you will make money from home can be part of an overwhelming game of despair if you’re not clear on your goals and reasons for starting this venture.
Be clear on the time you can commit to this business.
Treat it like a business from the beginning. Calculate the time it will take you to create your products, services, and offers. Include blogging, marketing strategizing, and social media creation. Tally up the time it will take you to keep your bookkeeping tasks up to date.
Know why you want to start making money from home. Use a strong reason that will keep you motivated through the tough times.
Evaluate your skills. Rate your skills from 0 to 5 so you can see what you need to improve and learn. This will come in handy when you budget for courses. You’ll know where you should invest and when you can get away with Googling.
Chart your time and create estimates for expenditures to get a better picture of your time and money investment in this venture.
IN SUMMARY
There are hundreds of ways to make money from home. However, there is a slim list that will align with your goals and the time you have available. Be strategic in building skill sets that will help you in multiple areas of your idea.
